Top 5 Tips For Quality Custom Framing

1. Never place your artwork, needlepoint, or photograph directly against the glass.
There is expansion and contraction in the framing materials. Condensation may develop behind the glass depending upon temperature and humidity levels. If your artwork or fabric or photos are against the glass over time they will stick to the glass from moisture and possibly become unable to separate without damage.

2. Never use cardboard as backing in the back of the framing.
Always use acid-free backing products. Over time products that are not acid-free will oxidize and deteriorate the artwork or fabric that is in the frame.

3. Avoid direct sunlight.
If the artwork is going to be placed in an area where there is a lot of direct sunlight we suggest using UV glass to protect the artwork.

4. Hang artwork with two nails or hooks versus one.
This disperses the weight of the piece over a larger area and decreases the risk of the wire breaking particularly on a heavy piece. For a lot of weight use double wire. Two hooks also help keep that picture straight on the wall instead of tipping from one side to the other.

5. Hang artwork so the centre of the piece is at eye level.
It is easy to hang artwork too high. It should be hung at a level to best view and appreciate it. A trend now is resting it on tables or mantles, also for larger pieces resting on the floor. Eye level or lower to bring the viewer into the piece.
